10YO: Exploring Perspective and Kindness Through Wonder

10YO: Exploring Perspective and Kindness Through Wonder

The 10YO class recently completed an engaging novel study of Wonder by R. J. Palacio. Students listened to a shared read‑aloud, analysed characters, and explored different perspectives in the story. They expressed their learning through creativity by writing diamante poetry that compared two characters, before completing a detailed character essay and comparing the novel with its film adaptation. Students also worked together with strong collaboration to create an agamograph, a three‑dimensional artwork representing multiple viewpoints.

A key focus of the unit was the theme of kindness and how it connects to real life. Through thoughtful discussion and reflection, students demonstrated communication as they linked this theme to the school’s Success Orientations and their learning in Empower lessons. Guided by the quote, “When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind,” students used critical thinking to consider how kindness influences positive choices both in and beyond the classroom.
