6YO: Disappearing Stars: Exploring Why the Night Sky Changes

Students in 6MW are investigating the big question "Why do objects in the sky seem to change?" as part of the Objects in the Sky science unit.  This week the students are investigating why we can only see stars at night.  They worked cooperatively with a partner, each taking a turn as a "star maker" and "sunshine" to model the patterns of daylight they learned about in previous lessons.  Using flashlights and a cup with holes to resemble the Big Dipper, the students observed how the stars seemed to "disappear" when the sun rises during the day.
