6YO: Objects in the Sky

Six-Year-Olds have been having lots of hands-on learning about Objects in the Sky. We have studied and discussed how the moon and sun follow a pattern in the sky based on rotation/orbit and created a model to demonstrate this. Students made the 8 phases of the moon using Oreos to show the order of how the moon changes shape in the sky. The students went on a constellation hunt around the classroom and then they made their own constellation designs. Students manipulated a gnome statue's shadow by using a flashlight to make the connection that the sun moves across the sky which impacts shadows throughout the day.
