6YO: Reaching for the Moon: Our Young Scientists Explore Lunar Phases

This past week our six-year-old scientists dove into an exciting study of the moon phases. With this, they asked deep questions, sequenced each phase, and explained their thinking which in turn strengthened their communication skills. The students showed creativity by using Oreo cookies to model crescents, halves, and full moons. Also through collaboration, teams discussed, adjusted, and justified their models together. Beyond the classroom, students observed the moon at night and tracked its changes in their moon phase books for over 25 days, building curiosity, responsibility, and real-world scientific connections.
