7 YO Scientists Investigate Matter

7 year old students have been busy investigating the properties of materials. This week, we explored the concept of matter and the properties of different materials. Students used paper and aluminum foil to build a hat with 2 requirements: 1. to stay on their heads while they walk around, and 2. to shade their faces from the sun. Students used the engineering design process to plan, create, test, and improve their hats. It was harder than it seems, but these tenacious learners came up with some innovative designs!

Coming up, we will investigate changes that may occur to different materials by heating and cooling. Can these changes be reversed? Stay tuned to find out.
