8YO: Sandcastle Scientists: Engineering at the Shore

Science E01: Science and Engineering Practices

Students in 7YO OL class have been using the engineering design process all year to ask, imagine, plan, create, experiment, and improve their solutions to scientific questions. We culminated this unit with a trip to the beach for Sandcastle Engineering!

Each team of scientists focused on designing and building a sandcastle that would be the tallest, widest, most detailed, most realistic, or funniest.

First, students sketched and discussed, then built prototypes from playdough, and finally tested their designs using actual sand at Insifa Beach.
