8YO: What Makes Bridges So Strong?

8YO: What Makes Bridges So Strong?

The 8-year-olds have become eager scientific investigators and budding engineers as they explore questions like, "What makes bridges so strong?" and "How could you win a tug-of-war against a group of adults?" Through hands-on investigations, they've delved into these challenges with enthusiasm. We started by exploring the forces at play when a rubber band-powered "Hopper Popper" jumps high into the air. Students examined the forces involved in making their "Hopper Popper" spring to life. Next, they took on the challenge of designing and building paper bridges, tasked with determining how many coins their bridge could support using only two pieces of paper. A big congratulations to Lily and Romilly, whose bridge held an impressive 172 coins!
