ELEM: Building Strong Readers and Writers Through Interactive Learning

ELEM: Building Strong Readers and Writers Through Interactive Learning

This week, students practiced Heart Words by playing a fun Roll and Write game. Heart Words are words that have tricky spelling patterns that students need to remember “by heart.” By rolling a die and writing the words multiple times, students strengthened their word recognition, spelling, and reading fluency while having fun learning!

Another group of students learned about the different types of sentences through collaboration, communication, and interactive task cards. Working with partners and small groups, students discussed whether sentences were statements, questions, commands, or exclamations. The task card activities encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and meaningful conversations while helping students strengthen their understanding of sentence types in an engaging way.
