Dear families of elementary students,

The 2022-2023 school year is here - how exciting! All of us here at TIS are excited to start another school year. Construction and maintenance crews have worked hard to create new and updated learning spaces. We are excited for you to see these new areas.

Before I dive into some logistical information, I'd love to introduce myself. My name is Yaisa Banek, and I'll be the Director of Instruction for our elementary program. I am originally from Denver, Colorado (in the U.S.) but have lived abroad with my family since 2014. My husband and I are high school sweethearts and have three grown children (picture attached). We've lived in three countries thus far, China, Vietnam, and Albania; TIS is the 3rd QSI school I've worked for. I've worked with children for the last 23 years as a social worker, teacher, and, for the last six years, as an elementary school administrator.

Here is some back-to-school information:

  • Monday, August 22- Elementary class assignments will be communicated via email.

  • New family orientation will be on Tuesday, August 23rd, from 3-4. You will have a tour of the school, will get to meet your teacher, and will see your classroom. All new families are asked to meet in the courtyard on the 3rd floor at 3 PM

  • For returning families: The "Meet the Teacher" will be on Wednesday, August 24th. Please follow the schedule below:
    • 5YO - 6YO:
      • 2:00 - 2:40; Families, please meet Mrs. Mudd and me in the gym at 2 PM
    • 7YO - 8YO:
      • 2:40 - 3:20; Families, please meet Mrs. Mudd and me in the gym at 2:40 PM
    • 9YO - 10YO:
      • 3:20 - 4:00; Families, please meet Mrs. Mudd and me in the gym at 3:20 PM
    • Your teacher will provide more information about this year and have a Q & A session.

  • The first day of school will be August 25th. Dismissal time for 5YO - 10YO students is 11:30 AM. The first full day of school will be Friday, August 26th
  • Arrivals:

    • All 5YO - 10YO students will arrive daily through the lower playground gate (pictured below)
    • Students are led to their classes promptly at 7:55 AM. Please help your child to arrive between 7:45 and 7:55 AM every day.
  • Dismissals:

    • 5YO, 6YO, and 7YO students picked up by their parents will be at the front of the school.
    • 8YO, 9YO, and 10YO students picked up by their parents will be at the lower playground gate (same gate pictured above).
    • Bus riders will be walked to their appropriate buses.

We are excited for a year of learning, growing, and having fun. Our teachers and staff have worked hard to prepare for the upcoming year. We embody the QSI philosophy that all students can succeed and work hard to create the conditions for them to do so. Thank you for choosing TIS as your educational choice. We are happy you are here.

All the best,

Yaisa Banek

Director of Instruction – Elementary

Hello TIS Elementary!

My name is Alyssa Mudd and I am honored to serve as the Elementary School Counselor for 5YO-10YO.  I look forward to getting to know each and every student in the elementary.  I will be visiting each classroom a couple times a month, providing social/emotional lessons and content surrounding the Success Orientations. In addition to classroom lessons, I work with small groups for students, serve individuals, and help to coordinate all-school and elementary focused initiatives throughout the year.

This year, we are going to do things superhero-style!  Take note!

As always, feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.  It's going to be a great year!

Kind regards,

Alyssa Mudd
