IB & AP Testing Preparation: The Importance of Being Present

In just a couple of short weeks, our secondary students will begin the IB and AP testing period for the 2025–26 school year. As we move into this important phase, regular class attendance is more important than ever.

Daily class time is when students engage in targeted review, practice exam-style questions, clarify misunderstandings, and learn subject-specific strategies directly from their teachers. Our teachers are the experts in their disciplines and are best positioned to guide students in how to apply knowledge effectively, manage exam expectations, and build confidence heading into assessments. Missing class means missing out on this intentional preparation that cannot be fully replicated outside of the classroom.

Consistent attendance also plays an important role in academic evaluation. As outlined in the TIS handbook, students who are consistently missing class may not be eligible to earn an “A” in that course.

‘A’ level students should demonstrate consistency of work across a unit in order to be considered for the ‘A.’ For teachers to evaluate students’ knowledge consistently, a teacher may consider the following criteria as a part of assigning an ‘A’ grade:
• school attendance (if missed assignments/participation)
• timely completion of classwork/homework
• class/group engagement”

We appreciate your partnership in ensuring students are present, prepared, and engaged during these final weeks of learning and review.

Director of Instruction Update

I am attending an IB conference and will be off campus until Tuesday, April 21. While I may not be on site, I am always available via email and happy to support as needed.

Have a great weekend, and thank you for your continued support of our students!
