Dear TIS Families,

What an exciting week it has been in our elementary classrooms! Our teachers and students have been hard at work, diving into math, reading, writing, and more—all while having fun and collaborating with their peers.

Here are some of the wonderful learning highlights from this week:

Highlights from Lower Elementary

Math Fun (5-Year-Olds):
Our youngest learners explored counting, graphing, and early math skills through play-based activities. Students had the chance to work one-on-one with teachers while also enjoying free-choice time after completing their math tasks.

Counting On (6-Year-Olds):
In one of our 6 year-old classrooms, students practiced addition using a number line. They helped their teacher model problems using the document camera and celebrated correct answers with a cheerful “kiss your brain!”
Meanwhile, in another 6 year-old classroom, subtraction came alive through modeling and movement. Fun call-and-response attention-getters like, “Macaroni and cheese, everybody freeze!” kept the energy high and learning focused.

Mystery Picture Grammar (6-Year-Olds):
Students explored nouns through a mystery picture activity. Working with partners on the floor, they identified people, places, and things, coloring spaces to reveal hidden images. This activity combined grammar practice with hands-on fun and flexible learning options.

Jeopardy Math Game (7-Year-Olds):
In PW, students played a lively Jeopardy game to review comparing and ordering numbers, missing numbers, number sentences, and word problems. The room was filled with laughter as students applied their math skills in a fun and interactive way.

Partner Math Review (7-Year-Olds):
In OL, students paired up to complete their math review and study guide. Partners checked each other’s work while teachers circulated to provide support, creating a collaborative and encouraging learning space.

EMPOWER Kickoff

Building Social-Emotional Skills (All Elementary):
Wednesday, our elementary students kicked off the EMPOWER program with a special event led by our school counselor. EMPOWER helps students build essential life skills such as empathy, self-awareness, problem-solving, and resilience.

Through interactive discussions and activities, students explored what it means to be caring, responsible members of our school community. This weekly program will give students ongoing opportunities to grow socially and emotionally alongside their academic learning.

We can’t wait to see the positive impact EMPOWER will have throughout the year!

Looking Ahead

As we move into next week, we are excited to continue seeing our students collaborate, problem-solve, and grow. Thank you to our teachers for their creativity and dedication in making learning come alive each and every day.

Just a Reminder:

Arrivals:  

All 5YO - 10YO students will arrive daily through the lower playground gate (pictured below) 

Students are led to their classes promptly at 7:55 AM. Please help your child to arrive between 7:40 and 7:55 AM every day. Please remember to say good-bye at the black gate.

Dismissals: 

5YO, 6YO, and 7YO students picked up by their parents will be at the front of the school.  

8YO, 9YO, and 10YO students picked up by their parents will be at the lower playground gate (same gate pictured above).  

Bus riders will be walked to their appropriate buses.
