MS/SEC: Middle School IE, MS and HS Literacy Support, & Cultural Studies 13 with Mr. Shehu
Middle School IE
For the past few weeks, Middle school IE students have been working on reading nonfiction texts accurately and fluently using self-monitoring strategies to comprehend independently, as well as identifying the main idea of an informational text, online article, and/or video. They have also been writing informational essays. The other group has been working on using specific evidence from the text to draw conclusions, reading an informational/nonfiction text, and writing a summary as well as editing for capitalization, grammar usage, punctuation, and spelling to prepare their research for publication. Way to go!
MS and HS Literacy Support
Middle school (MS) literacy support students receive assistance on grammar and writing aspects. They engage in various language arts exercises like properly ordering adjectives in a sentence, recognizing and correcting sentence fragments and run on sentences. They had a wonderful experience writing a persuasive essay in the recent weeks.
High school (HS) Literacy Support students focus on their literacy curriculum while also expanding their vocabulary in Mathematics, Science, and Cultural Studies. They also dedicate time to enhancing their reading comprehension abilities.
Cultural Studies 13 with Mr. Shehu
In the past weeks, Cultural Studies students have been exploring the early American civilizations. Currently they have been thoroughly outlining how Europe faced political and religious change after the fall of Rome. They “experienced” firsthand the feudalism in Europe through a simulation exercise. Students have been explaining how the duties and obligations of the feudal system governed relationships between people of the Middle Ages. They are looking forward to answering the question "How can a civilization be rebuilt after a catastrophic disaster?" Way to go!
