Growing a Community of Young Musicians Since 2016

The TIS Violin Program offers students from ages 5 through Secondary School the opportunity to develop musical skills, creativity, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for music through violin study.

Students learn in small groups, where they receive individualized support while also enjoying the experience of making music together. Instruction is based on the internationally recognized Suzuki approach, which emphasizes learning through listening, repetition, positive encouragement, and active participation.

What Students Learn

Throughout the year, students develop:

  • Strong foundations in posture, bow hold, rhythm, intonation, and music reading

  • Fine and gross motor skills through age-appropriate violin activities

  • Concentration, discipline, perseverance, and responsibility

  • Listening skills, musical expression, and ensemble performance skills

  • Confidence through regular performance opportunities

Lessons are engaging and interactive, incorporating movement, singing, listening activities, music games, and ensemble playing to create a positive and motivating learning environment.

Performance Opportunities

Violin students perform regularly throughout the school year, including:

  • Winter Instrumental Concert

  • End-of-Year Instrumental Concert

  • School celebrations and special events

  • Solo and ensemble performances

These experiences help students build confidence, stage presence, teamwork, and a sense of accomplishment.

International Opportunities

Students in Middle and Secondary School who demonstrate strong musical progress, commitment, and consistent preparation may be selected to represent TIS at the annual CEESA String Festival. This international event brings together talented young string musicians from CEESA schools for rehearsals, workshops, and performances under the direction of guest conductors and string specialists.

Instrument Support

To make participation accessible for families, TIS provides school violins for students during their first year in the program. This allows students to begin learning without the immediate need to purchase an instrument.

Our Goal

Our goal is not only to teach students how to play the violin, but also to help them develop a meaningful connection with music. Through listening, creativity, collaboration, and performance, students gain skills and experiences that extend far beyond the music classroom.

We look forward to welcoming a new generation of violinists to the TIS Violin Program.
