History

In May of 1991, Mr. Gilson traveled to Albania to have a look at a country just emerging from over 45 years of dictatorial rule. During his time there, he met some key people in the Tirana community and made a decision to begin Tirana International School. Continuing expansion has resulted in an organization that today offers excellence in education in more than 30 countries.

Our accreditation through the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools (MSA) ensures that students are receiving a universally recognized diploma that prepares them for a bright academic future. Since 1887, the prestigious MSA accreditation is considered the gold standard for schools, as it verifies the quality of each member school through yearly reporting and regular visitations. At TIS, we take our membership in MSA quite seriously by actively planning and implementing improvement plans to create an ever-stronger school program and environment.

The TIS secondary academic program aims to prepare students for acceptance and subsequent success in top universities in North America, the UK, and Europe. 

The school relocated to a new purpose-built

Tirana International School is housed in a beautiful new facility located on the outskirts of the city, between a high-end residential area and farm/forest land. The campus occupies a 5.5-hectare site. The building was designed to accommodate growth in enrollment and to take advantage of the abundant Albanian sunshine, having lots of balconies and patios. The sports complex boasts two playgrounds, a soccer pitch and track, tennis court, large exercise room, and a multipurpose play area. This new campus ensures that the school will have ample room as well as excellent instructional and sports facilities for many years to come.
